Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) has taken another important step toward becoming a fully integrated industrial and logistics hub with the commencement of a Final Location Survey (FLS) for the proposed Bhavnagar–Dholera railway line. The survey is aimed at determining the most efficient alignment, technical feasibility, and land requirements for the new rail corridor.

The proposed railway line is expected to significantly enhance freight connectivity between Dholera SIR and major ports, industrial clusters, and logistics hubs across Gujarat. By linking Dholera with Bhavnagar — a key coastal and industrial city — the rail corridor will strengthen supply chains for heavy industries, electronics manufacturing, and upcoming semiconductor projects in the region.

Rail connectivity is considered a critical enabler for large-scale industrial development, especially for sectors such as semiconductors, electronics, automotive, and renewable energy, which require reliable and cost-efficient transportation of raw materials and finished goods. The Bhavnagar–Dholera rail link is expected to reduce logistics costs, decongest road networks, and improve turnaround times for exporters and manufacturers operating within Dholera SIR.

The Final Location Survey will assess multiple factors, including route alignment, engineering challenges, environmental considerations, and integration with existing railway infrastructure. Once completed, the survey will pave the way for detailed project planning, cost estimation, and future approvals.

This rail project complements Dholera’s rapidly expanding infrastructure ecosystem, which already includes expressway connectivity, planned port access, and the upcoming Dholera International Airport. Together, these multimodal transport facilities are designed to position Dholera as one of India’s most advanced smart industrial regions.

With major investments flowing into Dholera’s industrial zones, improved rail connectivity is expected to play a vital role in supporting long-term growth, attracting global investors, and enhancing Gujarat’s competitiveness as a manufacturing and export powerhouse.
