Public Transit Enhancements Begin: Dholera Express Bus Corridors Launched to Boost Connectivity

In a bid to strengthen public transit and reduce travel time for commuters, authorities have begun rolling out express bus corridors connecting Dholera SIR with Ahmedabad and other strategic nodes in the region. This initiative complements major infrastructure developments such as the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway, high-speed metro proposals, and future mass rapid transit systems designed to improve mobility for residents, workers, and investors.

While dedicated Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) lanes are being planned in conjunction with regional transport authorities, the current phase focuses on high-frequency express bus services operating on priority road networks. These express bus corridors are expected to:

Reduce commute times between Ahmedabad and Dholera by taking advantage of modern expressway infrastructure.

Enhance connectivity between industrial areas, residential zones, and transport hubs, including proposed metro and airport locations.

Provide reliable public transit options for daily commuters, helping reduce private vehicle use and traffic congestion.

Authorities say these buses will operate with modern amenities like real-time tracking, priority stops, and dedicated stations, acting as a precursor to more advanced mass transit systems such as future metro and monorail projects. Long-term plans foresee the integration of multiple modes of transit — including buses, metro networks, and last-mile electric mobility — to create a seamless multi-modal transport ecosystem.

Transit planners also emphasise that the new corridors are designed with sustainability in mind, encouraging commuters to adopt cleaner, public-oriented transport choices. The corridor rollout is part of broader efforts to build smart, connected, and commuter-friendly urban mobility networks supporting the rapid growth of Gujarat’s emerging smart city hub.

With continued improvements to regional transport infrastructure — including expressways, metro plans, rail links, and airport access — Dholera’s public transit system is expected to evolve rapidly, enabling fast, efficient, and sustainable movement of people across the region.
