Dholera, Gujarat — In a move set to significantly boost transport connectivity and industrial logistics in the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), railway authorities have initiated a Final Location Survey for the proposed broad-gauge Bhavnagar–Dholera railway line as of early January 2026.

This proposed rail corridor — spanning approximately 65 kilometers — aims to provide direct rail access between Bhavnagar, a growing port city, and the Dholera activation area, thereby enhancing freight movement and supporting the region’s expanding industrial ecosystem. The survey work focuses on alignment feasibility, land requirements, and technical planning, all crucial steps before preparing the final Detailed Project Report (DPR) for submission to the Railway Board.

Improved rail connectivity is expected to complement Dholera’s existing infrastructure developments, such as the near-completion of the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway and the strategic Dholera International Airport project — both designed to transform the region into a comprehensive logistics and industrial hub. These multimodal links are intended to streamline the movement of goods and personnel across Gujarat and beyond.

The railway initiative aligns with Gujarat’s broader growth strategy, where cities like Dholera are being developed as major economic centers with robust industrial and residential ecosystems. Recent state reports highlight Dholera’s emergence alongside other fast-growing urban and industrial hubs in Gujarat, reinforcing its strategic importance for economic expansion and investment attraction.

Industry analysts note that enhanced rail connectivity will reduce logistics bottlenecks for manufacturing, exports, and port access — a critical advantage for global companies and domestic investors considering Dholera as a base for future operations.

As the project progresses through survey and planning phases, stakeholders — including government agencies, infrastructure partners, and industrial developers — are preparing for subsequent approvals, funding allocation, and eventual construction, which could begin once the DPR is sanctioned.
