Security Enhancements for Semiconductor Regions in Dholera & Sanand Strengthen Industrial Protection
The Gujarat Government has initiated a technology-driven security enhancement initiative for the rapidly developing semiconductor manufacturing regions in Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) and Sanand Industrial Zone. As Gujarat positions itself as a major semiconductor hub with multi-billion-dollar investments, authorities are focused on building a robust security framework tailored to the unique needs of high-value industrial assets and large workforces.
Officials say the new security grid is being designed to align with the scale and nature of semiconductor operations, which require more advanced protection than routine policing. A budget of approximately ₹15 crore has been allocated toward modernising police infrastructure and deploying advanced surveillance technologies in and around the semiconductor zones.
Key elements of the security enhancement plan include:
Integrated Command and Control Centres: These will serve as central hubs for monitoring industrial zones with real-time feeds from CCTV networks, drones, and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) systems, allowing rapid response and coordination with local security teams.
Technology-led Surveillance: Deployment of night-vision capable drones and other aerial monitoring tools will enable continuous perimeter security, especially in coastal and strategically sensitive areas like Dholera.
Workforce Safety & Verification: Digital workforce management systems are being introduced to verify identities and track labour movement, helping prevent infiltration by individuals with criminal histories and enhancing overall worker safety.
Advanced Analytics & Crime Mapping: Predictive analytics systems will identify patterns related to theft, industrial sabotage, labour disputes, or other risks, enabling pre-emptive action by enforcement teams.
Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi noted that while the semiconductor industry is generating significant investments and jobs, industrial peace and secure operations are essential to attract and retain global tech firms. He highlighted that security efforts are now an integral part of the state’s semiconductor strategy, supporting both industrial infrastructure and human capital.
Security planning has also taken into account the substantial female workforce expected in these manufacturing zones; authorities emphasise protected mobility and workplace confidence as core objectives. Once the semiconductor facilities reach full operational capacity, employment across Dholera and Sanand is projected to rise to around 40,000 workers, requiring a policing model that reflects both personnel density and industrial value.
The tailored security framework for semiconductor hubs demonstrates Gujarat’s effort to balance rapid industrial expansion with public safety, advanced infrastructure, and long-term resilience, ensuring that its growing role in India’s semiconductor ecosystem is supported by an equally strong foundation in industrial security and governance.
