Union Cabinet Approves Ahmedabad Dholera Semi High Speed Rail Corridor Project

The Union Cabinet has approved the Ahmedabad Dholera Semi High Speed Rail Corridor project, marking an important development for transport infrastructure in Gujarat. The proposed corridor will connect Ahmedabad with the Dholera Special Investment Region and is expected to improve regional rail connectivity.

According to official project details, the corridor will cover approximately 134 kilometers and will be developed at an estimated cost of around ₹20,667 crore. The rail line is planned as a double track semi high speed corridor under the Ministry of Railways.

The route will connect Sarkhej near Ahmedabad with Dholera and is expected to support passenger movement as well as regional industrial connectivity. According to official project information, the corridor is planned for train speeds of up to 220 kilometers per hour.

The project is being developed as part of broader infrastructure planning linked to Gujarat’s industrial and economic growth. Improved rail connectivity is expected to support faster movement between Ahmedabad and Dholera after the corridor becomes operational.

Officials have also indicated that the corridor will strengthen connectivity to important infrastructure projects in the region, including the proposed Dholera International Airport and the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor. Better transport links are expected to support industrial mobility, logistics activity, and future development in the surrounding areas.

The Ahmedabad Dholera rail corridor is also expected to improve access for towns and villages located along the route. Reports related to the project state that construction activity and future operations may create employment opportunities connected to railway infrastructure and related services.

Infrastructure experts believe that transport connectivity will play an important role in supporting industrial activity in Dholera, where multiple infrastructure and manufacturing projects are currently under development.

The rail corridor adds to several ongoing projects linked to Dholera, including the Ahmedabad Dholera Expressway, semiconductor related industrial investments, and airport development plans. Together, these projects are gradually strengthening infrastructure connectivity in the region.

With approval now granted, the Ahmedabad Dholera Semi High Speed Rail Corridor becomes one of the major upcoming railway infrastructure projects planned for Gujarat.
