The Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway, a key infrastructure project connecting Ahmedabad with the upcoming Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR), is in its final stages of construction and is expected to be operational by late 2025 or early 2026.

The 109-kilometre, access-controlled expressway has been designed to drastically reduce travel time between Ahmedabad and Dholera from the current 2.5–3 hours to just about 60–75 minutes, offering a major boost to regional mobility.

The expressway begins near Sarkhej in Ahmedabad and terminates close to Dholera SIR, passing through key industrial and semi-urban zones of Gujarat. It forms an integral part of the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and plays a crucial role in the planned development of Dholera as India’s first greenfield smart city.

Key Features of the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway include:
• Four to six-lane access-controlled highway with provisions for future expansion
• Design speed of up to 120 km/h, enabling fast and uninterrupted travel
• Dedicated service roads, interchanges, flyovers, and underpasses for safety and smooth traffic flow
• Advanced drainage systems and modern construction standards to ensure durability and flood resistance

The expressway is expected to significantly benefit industries, logistics operators, and investors, as it will provide seamless connectivity to Dholera Smart City, the upcoming Dholera International Airport, and proposed industrial clusters, including semiconductor and manufacturing hubs.

Government officials state that major civil work has been completed, with finishing works such as signage, safety barriers, toll infrastructure, and final inspections currently underway. Trial runs on certain stretches are expected before full commissioning.

Once operational, the expressway will accelerate real estate development, attract large-scale industrial investments, and improve daily commuting, strengthening Gujarat’s position as a major economic and manufacturing hub.

The Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway is widely seen as a game-changer project that will act as the backbone for Dholera’s transformation into a global-standard smart and industrial city.
