Dholera, Gujarat — The Final Location Survey (FLS) for the proposed Bhavnagar–Dholera broad-gauge railway line commenced in early January 2026, marking a significant milestone in improving rail connectivity to Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR). Spanning 65 km, this strategic railway line will connect Bhavnagar port with Dholera, facilitating efficient freight movement, reducing industrial transport costs, and boosting logistics efficiency across the region.

Officials from the Gujarat Railways and Dholera Industrial City Development Limited (DICDL) stated that the railway line is expected to support industrial growth, attract investment, and complement other major infrastructure projects, such as the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway and the upcoming Dholera International Airport. The line is also being designed for high-capacity freight trains, enabling the transportation of goods from industrial zones to ports and markets efficiently.

The project is a part of the broader multi-modal connectivity plan for Dholera SIR, aimed at integrating road, rail, air, and port networks to enhance the city’s smart industrial ecosystem. Once operational, the railway is expected to reduce congestion on highways, lower transportation costs for industries, and improve supply chain efficiency, further reinforcing Dholera’s position as a key industrial and smart city hub in Gujarat.

Experts note that the integration of rail infrastructure with existing and upcoming industrial and residential projects will accelerate economic development, encourage new investments, and create employment opportunities in the region. The survey and subsequent railway development also align with India’s national corridor plans, supporting high-growth industrial clusters along the Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC).

Additionally, the project incorporates modern safety measures, sustainable construction practices, and advanced signaling systems, ensuring reliability and long-term efficiency. The railway connectivity will also enhance regional trade and export potential, as Bhavnagar Port serves as a major gateway for goods moving internationally.

With the completion of this railway line, Dholera SIR will witness faster industrial operations, better logistics for exports, and improved investor confidence, cementing its status as a planned smart city and industrial hub of national importance.
