The Union Cabinet has approved a semiconductor manufacturing project by Crystal Matrix Limited (CML) in Dholera, Gujarat, marking another important step in India's efforts to expand its semiconductor ecosystem. The approval was announced on 7 May 2026 as part of a broader package of semiconductor investments approved by the Government of India.

According to official information, Crystal Matrix Limited will establish a semiconductor and display manufacturing project in Dholera. The project is among the semiconductor initiatives being supported under India's strategy to strengthen domestic electronics manufacturing and reduce dependence on imported semiconductor products.

Dholera Special Investment Region has emerged as a key destination for advanced manufacturing projects due to its planned industrial infrastructure and ongoing connectivity development. The approval of the Crystal Matrix project further adds to the growing list of technology-focused investments being planned in the region.

Government officials stated that the approved projects are expected to contribute to the development of India's semiconductor value chain and support the country's long-term manufacturing objectives. Semiconductor manufacturing is considered a strategic sector because it supports industries such as consumer electronics, telecommunications, automotive technology, industrial equipment, and digital infrastructure.

The Cabinet approval also highlights Gujarat's increasing role in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing. In recent years, the state has attracted major investments related to chip manufacturing, semiconductor packaging, electronics production, and supporting infrastructure development.

Industry experts note that semiconductor projects require advanced technology, specialized facilities, and a skilled workforce. Continued investment in manufacturing infrastructure is expected to support the growth of India's semiconductor sector over the coming years.

The Crystal Matrix project adds to the ongoing industrial development taking place in Dholera, where multiple infrastructure and manufacturing initiatives are being developed under long-term planning frameworks. Improved connectivity through projects such as the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway and the approved Ahmedabad–Dholera Semi High Speed Rail Corridor is expected to strengthen the region's industrial ecosystem.

With Cabinet approval now granted, the Crystal Matrix semiconductor project will move forward through the required implementation and development stages in accordance with government regulations and project plans.
