Railway Survey Strengthening Connectivity in Dholera Smart City
A key railway alignment survey aimed at enhancing rail connectivity to Dholera Smart City was successfully completed in the first half of January 2026, reinforcing the region’s long-term transport and logistics vision.
The survey focuses on identifying optimal rail corridors that will connect Dholera with nearby industrial zones, ports, and major railway junctions across Gujarat. This development is expected to significantly improve the movement of goods and daily commuters, especially as Dholera evolves into a major industrial and semiconductor manufacturing hub.
Officials involved in the project indicated that the survey covered technical feasibility, land alignment, soil conditions, and integration with existing railway infrastructure. The findings will now be used to finalize detailed engineering plans, environmental clearances, and cost estimates.
Enhanced rail connectivity is critical for Dholera’s success, as it will support large-scale industrial operations, reduce logistics costs, and provide a reliable transport option for the growing workforce expected to relocate to the region.
In addition, the proposed rail link is expected to include:
Dedicated freight corridors to streamline cargo movement from industrial clusters to ports and logistic hubs
Passenger stations and commuter facilities designed for high-capacity operations to support residential and commercial growth
Integration with multimodal transport systems, linking with expressways, the Dholera International Airport, and planned metro or bus rapid transit networks
Once implemented, the rail link will complement existing infrastructure projects such as the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway, Dholera International Airport, and internal smart city road networks, further strengthening Dholera’s position as a next-generation smart industrial city.
Economists and urban planners highlight that this rail connectivity will accelerate investment, attract foreign and domestic industries, and generate thousands of jobs in logistics, manufacturing, and service sectors. It is also expected to reduce regional traffic congestion, carbon footprint, and travel time, enhancing Dholera’s sustainability credentials.
The project is part of the broader Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) initiative, which aims to create a highly integrated industrial ecosystem with advanced transportation, logistics, and urban infrastructure. Rail connectivity to Dholera will ensure that the smart city is seamlessly linked with national supply chains and international trade networks.
Authorities have stated that preparatory works, land acquisition, and environmental studies are on schedule, with construction likely to start by mid-2026, and full operations expected by the late 2020s, in line with Dholera’s urban growth and industrial targets.
