Fujifilm India Signs MoU With Gujarat Govt to Explore Semiconductor Materials Facility in Dholera
Fujifilm India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Gujarat State Electronics Mission to explore opportunities for semiconductor materials manufacturing and assess the possibility of establishing a production base in Dholera, Gujarat. The move is being seen as another important semiconductor-linked development for the Dholera region.
Fujifilm India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gujarat State Electronics Mission (GSEM), under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Gujarat, to explore opportunities in semiconductor materials manufacturing and evaluate the possibility of setting up a production base in Dholera.
The development adds another semiconductor-related update to Dholera, which is increasingly emerging as a strategic location in Gujarat’s electronics and semiconductor push. According to the announcement, the MoU is focused on assessing opportunities for semiconductor materials manufacturing in India, with Dholera being considered as a potential production base.
The agreement was announced during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference in Vadodara. Through this collaboration, Fujifilm India plans to work with the Gujarat government and related stakeholders to study the feasibility of establishing semiconductor materials manufacturing operations linked to the growing semiconductor ecosystem in the state.
Unlike a semiconductor fabrication plant that manufactures chips, a semiconductor materials facility supports the supply chain by producing critical materials used during chip manufacturing processes. These materials are essential for semiconductor production and can play an important role in building a stronger domestic electronics and semiconductor ecosystem.
The MoU reflects growing interest in Gujarat’s semiconductor ambitions, particularly in Dholera, which has already attracted attention as a major industrial and technology destination. The region is being positioned to support semiconductor manufacturing, electronics production and other advanced industries through planned infrastructure, industrial land and connectivity improvements.
At this stage, the Fujifilm India announcement should be viewed as an exploration and assessment initiative rather than a final plant commissioning update. The MoU indicates the company’s intent to evaluate a semiconductor materials production base in Dholera, and further project decisions would depend on feasibility studies, planning and future execution steps.
If the proposal moves forward, it could strengthen India’s semiconductor supply chain, support domestic manufacturing capability and further improve Dholera’s position in Gujarat’s long-term semiconductor and advanced manufacturing strategy.
