Embraer Project May Locate India’s First Aircraft Assembly Line in Dholera SIR
Brazilian aerospace major Embraer, in partnership with the Adani Group, is evaluating the establishment of India’s first final assembly line (FAL) for commercial fixed‑wing aircraft — with Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) in Gujarat emerging as a strong contender.
According to industry reports, the proposed assembly line facility — a **joint venture between Embraer and Adani Defence & Aerospace — is likely to be located either at Dholera in Gujarat or at Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh, with Dholera widely seen as the front‑runner due to its strategic advantages and aviation ecosystem developments.
Officials say the aircraft final assembly line would focus on regional aircraft models produced by Embraer, widely used for short‑ and medium‑haul commercial flights. If implemented, the facility is expected to take 3–4 years to build, followed by another year before the first aircraft rolls out, mirroring timelines observed in similar aviation projects in India.
The plans are part of a broader strategic partnership between Embraer and Adani Defence & Aerospace, solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in late January 2026. This pact aims to facilitate not just aircraft assembly, but also build a domestic aviation ecosystem covering manufacturing, supply chains, and aftermarket services.
Why It Matters:
• The establishment of a final assembly line in Dholera would mark a major milestone for India’s civil aviation manufacturing capabilities and represent a significant expansion of the country’s aerospace industrial base.
• It aligns with the Make in India initiative by reducing reliance on imported aircraft and helping create a local aircraft production ecosystem that includes design, assembly, supply chain, maintenance, and pilot training infrastructure.
• Dholera’s connectivity advantages — including the Dholera International Airport, Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway, and proposed rail links — make it an attractive choice for aerospace investors and industrial partners.
• The project could bring significant employment opportunities, strengthen the regional economy, and attract further global aerospace investments, reinforcing Dholera’s position as a strategic industrial hub.
While a formal site decision and detailed project announcement are pending, industry watchers say that the final location — whether Dholera or Bhogapuram — is expected to be revealed in the coming weeks or months. The selection will also influence future aerospace supply chains and manufacturing networks in India.
