The Gujarat government has unveiled its first Data Centre Policy 2026–29, setting an ambitious target of attracting ₹6 lakh crore in investments while developing 7.5 GW of data centre capacity across the state. The policy was launched by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar as part of Gujarat's strategy to strengthen its digital infrastructure and attract technology-focused investments.

To encourage the establishment of data centres, the policy offers a range of fiscal and non-fiscal incentives. These include capital subsidy, interest subsidy, power tariff support, reimbursement of State GST (SGST), exemption from stamp duty and registration charges, and financial assistance for captive desalination plants to help meet the high water requirements of large-scale data centre facilities.

According to the state government, the policy aims to create a supportive ecosystem for artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, digital services, and next-generation data infrastructure. It also seeks to simplify the investment process and improve the overall business environment for companies planning to establish data centre projects in Gujarat.

The policy is expected to support future digital infrastructure investments across Gujarat's industrial regions. Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) is among the locations expected to benefit as the state continues to promote AI-driven industries, advanced technology projects and large-scale digital infrastructure developments.

With growing demand for cloud services and AI-ready infrastructure, the new policy is expected to strengthen Gujarat's position as an emerging destination for data centres and technology investments while supporting the state's long-term digital economy goals.
