Dholera, Gujarat — A high-level delegation of Japanese industry leaders and representatives from leading Japanese institutions recently visited the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR) to review progress across industrial, infrastructure, and semiconductor projects. The visit reflects growing global confidence in Dholera’s emergence as a smart industrial city and a key semiconductor manufacturing hub in India.

During the visit, the delegation received detailed briefings on Dholera’s integrated urban and industrial planning, including the functioning of the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), city-wide utility networks, and smart governance systems designed to enable real-time monitoring, efficient service delivery, and sustainable urban management. Delegates also conducted on-ground inspections of core infrastructure facilities, assessing their readiness to support high-end manufacturing and international investments.

A major highlight of the visit was the review of the Tata Electronics Semiconductor Fabrication Facility, India’s first commercial semiconductor fabrication plant, being developed at Dholera SIR in partnership with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC). The project, spread over 163 acres with an investment of ₹91,000 crore, is expected to commence production by 2027, with a planned capacity of up to 50,000 wafers per month. Once operational, the facility is projected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs and significantly strengthen India’s domestic semiconductor supply chain.

Officials from the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) and Dholera Industrial City Development Limited (DICDL) presented updates on master planning, industrial zoning, and utility infrastructure, emphasizing Dholera’s plug-and-play industrial ecosystem. Key projects discussed included expressway and rail connectivity, phased development of the Dholera International Airport, and scalable industrial land parcels designed to accommodate global technology and manufacturing firms.

The delegation also reviewed plans for social and lifestyle infrastructure, including educational institutions, healthcare facilities, residential townships, and commercial zones, underscoring Dholera’s transition from an industrial region to a fully integrated smart city. Officials highlighted that such comprehensive planning is essential to attract and retain global talent and long-term investments.

Overall, the visit marks a strengthening of India–Japan industrial and technological collaboration, with Dholera SIR positioned as a strategic destination for advanced manufacturing, semiconductor production, and smart city development in the coming years.
